Our World Parkinsons Day Pickleball Event raises almost £700 for Parkinson’s UK!
Dorset Dinkers Serve Up Success in Support of Parkinson’s UK
Members of the Dorset Dinkers Pickleball Club came together on Saturday 18th April 2026 at Canford School Sports Centre for a special charity session in support of Parkinson’s UK, marking World Parkinson’s Day with two hours of fun, friendly competition.
The event saw an impressive turnout of 35 players, including a mix of regular members and several newcomers keen to try the fast-growing sport. The session highlighted the club’s welcoming and inclusive ethos, with games catering to all abilities and ensuring everyone could take part and enjoy the day.
The atmosphere throughout was lively and supportive, with participants embracing both the social and sporting aspects of pickleball. The event proved not only a celebration of the sport but also a meaningful opportunity to raise awareness and funds for an important cause.
Thanks to the generosity of those involved, the session raised a total of £652.29 (plus gift aid) for Parkinson’s UK. The charity works to improve life for people affected by Parkinson’s and to fund vital research into the condition.
Parkinson’s is currently the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, with two people diagnosed every hour. It affects individuals in different ways, with symptoms ranging from stiffness and tremor to difficulties with sleep, writing, speech, and mental health, including anxiety. While medication can help manage symptoms by replacing dopamine — a chemical that is lacking in people with Parkinson’s — many treatments have remained largely unchanged since the 1960s. Continued fundraising is essential to advance understanding and support research into improved treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
